Suchen nach dem butanding
"Looking for the butanding." Because Babelfish is my friend.
Went to Donsol, Sorsogon, with mi familia and German family family-friends last Jan 2, arriving yesterday morning, with the hopes of attending my Math2 class, only for the prof not to show up. Wondahful.
Anyhoo. No luck finding the butanding. That's the whale shark, by the way. We spent an afternoon on a boat whizzing around the bay looking to snorkel with zee friendly fishies, to no avail.
We ended up at a beach snorkelooking at coral. Or
rather, my boat companions did, my first dip into the water,
goggle-less, snorkel-less, and floatation device-less, making me
realize that: 1. the water's too cold, 2. the water's too dark
(recent rains having caused murkiness), and 3. the water's too deep. If
you know me, you know I don't freak out easily. I didn't really freak
out, but I did chicken out. I swam for about 15 seconds, never straying
away from the boat, then got back in. I didn't need to look at coral
anyway.
Later we caught up with another boat whose tourists had just seen the butanding. Supposedly my companions could see its shadow nearby, but I didn't have my glasses on then. Sucks.
It was a pretty okay over-vacation. The place we stayed in was nice, but kinda isolated. Few people were there (then again, wasn't really butanding season), the signal was weak, and the only source of entertainment seemed to be a karaoke machine, which we didn't get around to using.
We were left with having to talk, or play cards, which we didn't do much of, which was sad. But we taught one German dude how to play tong its, pusoy dos, speed, bullshit... It would have been better with less lost in translation. I can hardly start a conversation with someone in Filipino, much less in English, with German dudes no less.
Aside
from the butanding exploits, we also went to the Irosin hot springs,
which was great (although there were just about two pools there) and
went shopping in Albay.
Shopping in Albay made me realize how cheesy some of what are on the racks in department stores these days. I'd like to see a shirt that says "POWTAH" or "PAKSHET." Or with tarot pics, or alibata, or something original. I'd make them, if I knew how. If I had the time and the patience. There's only so much you can take with brand logos and "FCUK," and those stiched-on polo collars and sleeves.
I bought a gray long-sleeved shirt though (coz it was cheaper there). And still looking for that elusive pink long-sleeved shirt. I found Tony's "Beer is the answer" shirt there, of all places. And basic, solid-colored shirts which our PE shirts seemd to be made of.
I was going to say something else but I forgot.
It's 2. I'm going to sleep.
